Description
Child welfare advocates, therapists, teachers, and others who work with children and families across the nation have engaged in the trauma informed care conversation for numerous years yet there has been a missing aspect of the conversation, race-based trauma. What prevents advocates from engaging in this aspect of the conversation? What is race-based trauma? Can we effectively engage families if we are not prepared to deal with the whole person? This workshop will lead participants in a discussion about race-based trauma, the impact on family engagement, and the importance of acknowledging this often ignored type of trauma.
