the nation have engaged in the trauma informed care conversation for nume
rous years yet there has been a missing aspect of the conversation\, race-
based trauma. What prevents advocates from engaging in this aspect of the
conversation? What is race-based trauma? Can we effectively engage familie
s if we are not prepared to deal with the whole person? This workshop will
lead participants in a discussion about race-based trauma\, the impact on
family engagement\, and the importance of acknowledging this often ignore
d type of trauma.\n\nPresenter \nTanya N. Rollins\, MSW\, is employ
ed in the fields of child welfare and higher education. She has worked in
the Texas child welfare system for twenty-seven years in roles as an inves
tigator\, intake specialist\, intake supervisor\, training specialist\, an
d training manager. She is currently the Child Protective Services Dis-pr
oportionality Manager for the Texas Department of Family and Protective Se
rvices. She is an adjunct faculty member at Texas State University-San Mar
cos in the School of Social Work. She has taught courses in cultural dive
rsity\, team work\, communication\, popular culture\, minority relations\,
policy\, and youth culture at several universities. \n
