Shontell Smith, PhD

Shontell Smith, Ph.D., is a Licensed Psychologist at Austin Child Guidance Center (ACGC), where she has been serving children and families since January 2023. She is experienced in trauma-informed care and psychological assessments, including cognitive and academic testing, autism spectrum disorder evaluations, and social, emotional, and personality measures.

Dr. Smith earned her Ph.D. and master’s degrees in Educational Psychology from the University of Texas at Austin. She completed her APA-accredited predoctoral internship on the School Mental Health track with the VA Maryland Health Care System/University of Maryland School of Medicine Psychology Internship Consortium. She also holds a Bachelor of Science in Human Development and Family Science from The Ohio State University.

Dr. Smith began her career in education, where she developed a strong awareness of the profound effects trauma and mental health challenges have on child and adolescent development. Her experiences led her to focus on improving children’s functioning in academic environments by supporting their mental health needs. She has provided individual and group therapy, consultation, and psychoeducational assessments across school and community-based settings.

Affiliated with the Texas Psychological Association and the American Psychological Association, Dr. Smith is committed to providing trauma-informed, culturally responsive care that empowers children to thrive in their academic, social, and family lives.
