Careers and Volunteers

Volunteer

Austin Child Guidance Center (ACGC) engages hundreds of volunteers every year, from Play Leaders, who are vital to the therapeutic process for families, to Healing Garden volunteers and Board of Directors members. We welcome anyone interested in helping us make a difference in the lives of children and families.

Below you find volunteer opportunities that are typically available. Reach out to Jennifer Flores at jflores@austinchildguidance.org to learn more and get started! If you are interested in an internship or practicum, please visit our Careers & Internships page.

Committee Membership

Board of Directors and community participation as a Committee Member involve monthly meetings with ACGC staff to guide, plan, and manage organizational efforts and events. Current committees include Executive, Development, Finance, Governance, Events Planning,  Outreach, Programs, Events Planning, and Technology. Tasks may include event planning, management, and participation, as well as community awareness and advocacy, and assistance with technology needs and strategies. Submit the volunteer information request to receive more details.

Healing Garden

The Healing Garden at Austin Child Guidance Center is a space for relaxation and therapeutic healing available to clients and the broader community. Amidst the chaos and noise of everyday life, the garden offers a serene space for reflection, relaxation, and renewal. It also provides an alternative space for individual, family, and group therapy sessions, a private space for reflection following sessions, and an outdoor waiting room.

Individuals, families, and groups are needed to help us maintain, grow, and expand this beautiful space. Donations of plants, tools, and gardening materials are also welcome. Contact volunteer@austinchildguidance.org for more information.

Play Leaders

Play Leaders interact with children in our waiting area while they wait for their appointment or while their parents consult with staff. They plan and lead age-appropriate activities such as arts and crafts, games, and storytelling, supervise children to ensure their safety and well-being during play sessions, foster a welcoming and inclusive environment for children of diverse backgrounds, and encourage positive behavior and social interaction among children.

Outreach Volunteers

Outreach Volunteers support our efforts to raise awareness about our programs and engage families in need of services. Volunteers help distribute flyers, attend community events, assist with tabling opportunities, and provide information about ACGC’s mission and services.

Professional Services

A meaningful way to make an impact at ACGC is by volunteering your professional services. Sharing your expertise in information technology, marketing, communications, graphic design, interior design, human resources, or other professional fields helps build ACGC's capacity to positively impact children and families. We are currently seeking volunteers to assist with community events and help maintain our building. Contact volunteer@austinchildguidance.org for more details.
