Carla Valvidia, LCSW

Carla Valvidia joined ACGC in June 2025. With a Master’s degree in social work from Texas State University, she is a bilingual licensed clinical social worker with experience of working with children, adults, and families across a range of settings. Carla is passionate about making quality mental health care accessible to underserved communities and my goal as a therapist is to create a safe and supportive space where healing and growth can take root.
In her free time, Carla enjoys working out, being outdoors, hiking, cycling, or playing the steel drum! Yoga is one of her favorite activities though. She also loves traveling and learning about different cultures and trying different foods.
How Carla Can Help You
Carla has experience with helping kids and their families with attention deficient or hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), anxiety, attachment issues, depression, trauma, eye movement desensitization and reprocessing, developmental trauma, and parenting challenges. She is trained in a wide range of approaches, including: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Child and Family Traumatic Stress Intervention, Parent-Child Interaction Therapy, Play Therapy, Trust-Based Relational Intervention, and Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.
Carla brings a person-centered, strength's-based and holistic approach to therapy. Her work is grounded in trauma-informed care and integrates both bottom-up and top-down methods. This includes somatic, movement, sensory-based and experiential interventions alongside cognitive approaches such as cognitive behavioral therapy and psychoeducation. Carla pays particular attention to the mind-body connection and tailor interventions to meet the unique needs and developmental stages of each client. Her areas of interest include attachment, developmental trauma and how it affects the brain. In fact, Carla is Phase 1 certified in Neurosequential Model of Therapeutics (NMT).
