Addressing Race-based Stress and Mental Health Outcomes for Children of Color

Thursday, January 28, 2021
6:00 pm7:30 pm
Video Conference

Race-based stress is not new for children and adolescents of color and their families. When combined with the additional stress of the pandemic, social unrest and political tensions of the past year, children and families of color are experiencing increased levels of stress compared to their White peers. Race-based stress, like any prolonged stress responses can manifest into toxic-stress or trauma, which has negative long-term effects on the overall health of children and adolescents.

This panel will allow parents, caregivers, educators and community members to unpack the impact of race-based stress on the mental health of children of color. During our discussion , participants and panelists will explore ways that people of all ethnicities and backgrounds can identify micro-aggressions, implicit bias and other behaviors that contribute to race-based stress, in an effort to support children of color and their mental and physical health outcomes.
