Austin Child Guidance Center, 810 W. 45th St., Austin, TX 78751

Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a clinical approach that helps people make positive changes to support improved health and well-being. The "spirit" of MI includes collaboration between the therapist and client, evoking or "drawing out" the client's ideas about change, and emphasizing the autonomy of the client. MI has been used successfully in settings as diverse as substance abuse treatment, specialized treatment centers, inpatient units, primary care, community mental health, and schools. This workshop will include an overview of Motivational Interviewing, introduction to the core MI skills and components, and opportunity to practice strategies that increase the potential for change in youth and parents.

Presented by:
Dr. Jane Gray , Director of Clinical Training for the School and Counseling Psychology Doctoral Programs at UT-Austin.
